Filling the G-Apps: RIP Google Legacy

Image
For all those that don't know Google announced Change is inevitable and   The G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available starting July 1, 2022 Upgrade to Google Workspace by May 1, 2022 If you're one of the lucky few that managed to set yourself up with what was called "Gmail for your Domain" and then " Google Apps for Your Domain " back in 2006 and have managed to keep ahold of your account I'd recommend filling in the form ASAP! For those that don't know the Legacy Edition was originally just the ability to use your own personal domain with some limited personalisation and collaboration through associated Apps such as Google Plus, Calendar, and adding email address accounts to the same domain which then evolved into the back end Admin Console. It's understandable Google wants to deprecate Legacy, it's been around for over 15 years. Whilst storage and business functionality has been limited in comparison to the entry-level busin...

Filling the G-Apps: Drive Moving Files - The Starring Method

Image
In a any business you’ll end up with a job reference or numbering convention and a folder structure as the business grows. This can get more and more difficult to search through when moving documents around in Google Drive as there is currently no function to search after you select "Move to". A simple solution to this process is to use the star function in Drive or searching via the naming convention. Filling the G-Apps: Google Drive Sync

Google Drive Sync whilst being a useful tool is not yet developed to an enterprise level. NB: Whilst the above statement is also true of Google Drive the following points are only about Google Drive Sync: ● There are currently no management tools available ● It is not supported when installed on a server ● Scope and granular functionality don't exist beyond what a basic user can see ● The local synchronisation service whilst it seems fairly reliable and it doesn't quite interfear with resources as much as something like Dropbox. It's not extremely fast, it's not a snail's pace but if you have 30+ users all working on non Google Docs documents they might not all be synchronised in a reasonable time ● Unidirectional synchronisation settings. While any files you place under the root folder will synchronise from a local computer up you can't tell it what not to synchronise at the secondary folder level or any subsequent folders ● There is no connec...
