Stay COVID Meeting Safe

I've had a number of people asking me recently about using recently popularised Apps due to COVID-19 in personal situations. In my personal opinion, I would steer away from both Zoom and Houseparty in particular, use something that is tried and tested like Messenger , Hangouts , Facetime or WhatsApp and ensure they're up to date as the latter two have also had hacking issues in the past due to people not updating after identified security breaches. Both Apps are very popular at the moment and have had security and privacy concerns raised. Houseparty has been reviewed by security experts which have said: "it's probably safe". It has safe security options but it is up to the end-user to implement them correctly. Having said that if you read the fine print Houseparty uses your personal data and advertising as their income (nothing is free), there have been reports of users having their login details for Netflix and Spotify accounts compromised but these ar...

COVID-19 Coronavirus v Technology Path

It's surprising what can instill business remodeling and push for changes in technology or an increase in an uptake. COVID-19 has had an extreme impact in our daily routines and has pushed towards a working from home in ways that would have taken years to become the norm.  Don't get me wrong we've been on our way there in the past few years with the developments onto cloud and SAAS solutions; on-line tools, integrations and deliveries; ICQ to Skype to a plethora of communication solutions. In the company I work for/with I've had to roll out a solution we've has available in a SAAS group but never pushed on as it was a convenience solution in place of face-to-face meetings primarily used for FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) clients that might have a limited schedule to communicate and not be in a convenient location. However now that COVID-19 had reared its head into the workplace it obviously creates a risk factor for a traditional face-to-face meeting which is quite likely to...

Windows 10 seems to have a plethora of potential issues with wifi connections which can be frustrating and a waste of time. Filling the G-Apps: Month/Year Count Pivot Table

Image
In Google Sheets it was previously a bit complicated to grab a data set and group it by the date assigned when the data is originally submitted in the date/time format which is what happens when using Google Forms or any date from a submission process.

GSuite Filling the G-Apps: Forms Regular Expressions Update

Australian Landline or Mobile (Including Area Code) I've had some issues with the Australian landline or mobile regular expression in my previous post as more numbers have been made available so I've started using this expression instead: ^\({0,1}((0|\+61)(2|4|3|7|8)){0,1}\){0,1}(\ |-){0,1}[0-9]{2}(\ |-){0,1}[0-9]{2}(\ |-){0,1}[0-9]{1}(\ |-){0,1}[0-9]{3}$

GSuite Filling the G-Apps: Forms, Contact Numbers and Regular Expressions

Image
GSuite Forms added their regular expression functionality a while ago but finding the correct combination for your scenario online can be cumbersome if you're not heavily into a language that makes use of regular expressions in it' entirety and Google doesn't seem to provide relevant samples probably because the combinations can be vast and "why don't you just Google it?". Below are some details I found useful for enforcing correct number formatting when entering details in some Google Forms I've had to create: I found "The Cheat Sheet - Javascript regular expressions " useful in resolving some of these: http://cheatsheet.zemplate.com BSB ^\d{3}-\d{3}?$ This uses a strict (3-3) format i.e. ###-### TFN Australian Tax File Numbers are  9 digits in the format of (3-3-3) ^(\([0-9]{3}\)|[0-9]{3}-)[0-9]{3}-[0-9]{3}|(\([0-9]{3}\)|[0-9]{3} )[0-9]{3} [0-9]{3}|(\([0-9]{3}\)|[0-9]{3})[0-9]{3}[0-9]{3}$ ABN Australian Business...

GSuite ISSUE - map New Sites with a secondary domain

Image
The ability to map a public domain to a secondary site is not currently functioning or available in GSuite Sites. The functionality looks like it's there but when you try to add a new mapping in the Admin Console it comes up with an error which makes sense in that it's crossing domains: You can select the added secondary domain which processes without an issue: The issue is no sites can exist under this domain. You can assign users to the domain by changing their login credentials to the secondary domain (using the rename option) however all GSuite Sites (New) are created under the primary domain and there is currently no option available to facilitate this.
